I am honored to receive the 2018 Five Star Wealth Manager award for the fourth year in a row!

The award is presented to wealth managers who provide quality services to their clients and is awarded to less than 8% of the advisors in the Providence area.

The FIVE STAR award is granted by Five Star Professional, an independent 3rd party marketing firm. This award is not indicative of future performance or success and stems from nominations by industry professionals in a given market area and based upon objective criteria including favorable regulatory and complaint history, reviews conducted by the firm, retention rates, and client assets administered.

USA Trademarks

(Fall 2016) - I am delighted to announce that our team's puzzle-heart logo, along with our motto "Planning for Good," are now both federal trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office!

(Summer 2016) - Karen Melo, CFP® attended the annual Women Adviser Summit hosted by InvestmentNews, a leading provider of business news for financial professionals. The agenda included the following topics:

A Decade and Counting...

(Spring 2017) - I'm delighted to announce my 10-year anniversary as an independent financial advisor, making it 17 years in the financial services business! 

Karen and Her Little Sister Mentee Dance Bachata

(Summer 2016) – Brandon Contreras of Paso Sensual Dance Company and three members of his dance team brought huge smiles to the faces of several teen mentees of Big Brother Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS).

Karen Melo, a local professional with Baystate Financial, has been a Big Sister for the past six years to a teenage girl who is being raised by a single dad. Her goal is to serve as a role model for her Little Sister and to help her overcome some of the challenges she has faced in childhood. Melo also happens to be a member of the Latin dance community and was excited to share her love of Bachata with her teenage mentee.

We Met Malala Yousafzai!

(Fall 2016) - Karen and her Little Sister mentee, Jazmine, had the honor of meeting Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani activist who stood up to the Taliban and survived a near-fatal shot to the head for attending school. Malala went on to be the youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

Baystate's Annual Holiday Charity Drive for Youth Pride, Inc.

(Winter 2015) – Karen Melo, CFP® (along with her colleagues, clients and friends) collected non-perishable food and personal hygiene items to help stock the pantry at Youth Pride, Inc. in Providence. YPI's mission is to meet the unique and on-going needs of youth and young adults impacted by sexual orientation and gender indentity / expression. Karen Melo, CFP®, an Advisor with Baystate Financial, Attends the 2015 Pride Planners Conference

(Summer 2015) – Karen Melo, CFP® joins friend and allied professional, Lillian Gonzalez, CPA, at the most recent Pride Planners conference in Boston. Pride Planners offers financial professionals, including planners, accountants and attorneys, with the most current information related to advising the LGBT community on important money matters. This event includes 6 hours of Continuing Education and many opportunities for networking with other LGBT-friendly professionals. This time, we had the honor of hearing Massachusetts Attorney General, Maura Healey, speaking about the importance of protecting LGBT rights.
