    Formulating Policies:

     

    Gift Acceptance Policy

     

    • Provide board and staff with materials on policy development and several samples, in advance of initial meeting

    • Meet to review, educate on issues, identify priorities, opportunities, begin draft

    • Review draft and provide comments and feedback

    • Meet to present policy proposal to Executive/Development/Finance committees

    • Meet to present to Board at time of recommendation

    Investment/Spending Policies

    • Provide policy samples, Board Source materials in advance of initial meeting

    • Meet to review, educate on issues, assess risk tolerance, time horizon, spending projections, begin draft

    • Review draft and provide comments and feedback

    • Meet to present proposal policy to Executive/Finance committees

    • Meet to present to Board at time of recommendation

         Launching a Planned Giving Program:

     

    • Impanel subcommittee of Development Committee, including specialists in estate planning

    • Facilitate development of:

        • Name for Recognition society

        • Recognition Policy and Programs

        • Materials for outreach to donors, propsects, professional advisors

        • Web site content: Gift Acceptance Policy, Investment and Spending Policies, Society information, giving options, calculators

        • Develop prospect list with board and staff

        • Develop outreach program for professional advisors
        • Facilitate discussion around event options

        • Cultivate opportunities for participating donors to provide testimonials

        • Develop procedures for board and staff to respond to inquiries from prospects to facilitate further discussions

    “Maintenance”  or ongoing support

     

    • Annual gift valuation with staff

    • Annual gift and prospect tracking with board and staff

    • Annual prospect development with board and staff

    • Board refresher, regulatory update for staff and board and New Board Member orientation to policies and program

    Other areas of support, on an ad hoc basis:

     

    • Valuing Planned Gifts; training around valuation for staff

    • Audit Planned Giving program, identify opportunities for improvement, develop plan

    • Facilitating discussions with donors and charity, professional advisor

    • Presentation to donor groups, board, to explore planned giving options
